Debbie has 27 years of experience in secular talkradio, serving as Morning news anchor, Program Director and Talk show host. During her 11 years as a morning talk show host at KGMI in Bellingham, WA, her program was consistently #1 in northwest Washington.
Debbie ventured into a unique talk show format in 2005 when God gave her a vision to bring the message of hope and faith to the secular audience on KGMI weekday afternoons. Her afternoon program, which was eventually called The Debbie Chavez Show, definitely resonated with the listening audience and garnered many business sponsorships and requests for live remote broadcasts at area businesses. Debbie fondly describes the show as a cross between "Focus on the Family" and "Oprah"! In April of 2008, Debbie and her husband built a studio in their home and Debbie began broadcasting the talk show on the internet at www.debbiechavez.com. Now there are no geographical boundaries for her show!
Debbie serves as a volunteer Chaplain at the Whatcom County Jail and leads weekly bible studies in her home. She has also taught Sunday school for young children for over 12 years and served on the board of Evergreen Christian School in Bellingham for 2 years.
Debbie and her husband Raul have 5 children and 3 grandchildren who delight their hearts. She says she fell in love with her husband on their very first date…after he spent 3 straight hours telling her about all the mistakes he had made in his life up to that point! Debbie says it was endearing, but the real clincher was the way Raul indicated his love for God.
In her spare time, Debbie loves to cook and bake, entertain guests at their home, work with flowers in the garden, read, and travel.
Some major accomplishments:
As KGMI Program Director for over 20 years, Debbie led KGMI to receive the prestigious national Marconi Award from the National Association of Broadcasters for "Best Small Market Radio Station in America" in 2006
In 2006, Debbie developed and executed a campaign for KGMI to raise over $60,000 in donations to build an expansive granite memorial plaza to honor fallen soldiers in northwest Washington. She was able to finish the entire project from conception to completion in just 6 months, and was handed Bellingham's 2006 Mayor's Art Award for that project.
